Dee Ras Hansen

Dee Ras Hansen, 91, of Ogden, Utah, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013, in St. George, Utah, due to congestive heart failure. Dee was born on February 6, 1921, in Malad, Idaho, to Sylvester Orlando and Mary Rasmussen Hansen. He graduated from Malad High School, attended the University of Washington, and then graduated from the Wilson Business College in Seattle.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942 and became a pilot flying B-25s and C-46s during World War II. He flew 378 missions totaling 1,050 combat hours over China, Burma, and India, earning two Distinguished Flying Crosses, three Battle Stars, and two Air Medals.

After the war, Dee worked as an accountant at Hill Air Force Base in Layton, Utah, ultimately becoming the Chief Accountant over the Civilian Payroll Department. After retiring in 1978, Dee served for a time as President of the Uintah Highlands Water Board.

Dee''s greatest joy in life was his relationships with family and friends. Whether hunting or fishing with his brothers, sons, and grandsons, nurturing bonds with his daughters and granddaughters, spending time helping his brothers, golfing with his friends, or reaching out to his kindly neighbors, Dee''s love for people forged lasting bonds. Of all his relationships, however, Dee''s most precious and beloved bond was with his eternal companion, Gerry.

On March 8, 1946, Dee married Geraldine Johnson in Garland, Utah, and they were shortly thereafter sealed for all time and eternity in the Logan LDS Temple. During their 67-year marriage they were inseparable and showed their tender love for each other daily. Together they raised a loving family; they served faithfully in LDS Church callings, including Dee as Bishop of the Ogden 27th Ward in the Weber Stake; they served LDS missions in Ventura, California, and at the Tabernacle Visitors'' Center in Ogden, Utah; they square danced with the Whitney Whirlers for 40 years; and they wintered in St. George, golfing and participating in numerous other activities with their family and friends.

He will always be remembered as a man of great faith whose compassion enabled him to love everyone unconditionally. Dee, we love you so much and will miss you dearly, but we are comforted with the knowledge that we will be reunited after this life.

Dee is survived by his wife and their four children: John (Anne) Hansen, Pleasant View; Jill (Kriss) Dow, South Ogden; Robert Hansen, North Ogden; and Marilyn (Scott) Banasky, Springville; his 18 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, of whom he was most proud and loved very much: and his two sisters, Drue Aldous and Lana Draper;

He was preceded in death by his parents and six of his eight siblings: Verda Borromeo, Lilo Hansen, Boyd Hansen, Khalil "KV" Hansen, Ace Hansen, and Mary Mansfield.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Spring Canyon Chapel, 6350 S. Combe Road, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
