DeLamar Palmer

KAYSVILLE – On July 15, 1920 a Prince was born.  His name was DeLamar Palmer.  He was born in Holbrook, Idaho where his family homesteaded a dry farm and he learned how to work and enjoy spending time with his eleven brothers and sisters.  He passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014 at his home.

After marrying his high school sweetheart, Ruby Taylor, he embarked on a lifetime of hard work and good memories.

Dad received a BS from Albion State Normal School and later a Masters from Utah State University.

In 1943-45 he joined the US Air Force where he was an instructor of Radio and Gunnery.

His first teaching job was in Weston Canyon in a one room schoolhouse.  He later taught in Linrose, Idaho, West Side High School, and in 1960 the family moved to Kaysville, Utah where he taught at Davis High School for seven years.  Total teaching years were 45.

He was instrumental in starting evening and Saturday school at Davis and wrote the first grant to start DATC.

He is an active member of the LDS Church.  He has served as: Ward Clerk (2 times), Bishopric, Superintendent of MIA (2 times Total 21 years), Bishops Storehouse.

His hobbies were golf, fishing, woodwork, and gardening.  He enjoyed attending musical theater and a good game of horseshoes.  He was an avid reader and completed a crossword puzzle each day.  He could make something out of anything and until recently still maintained his own yard.

He is survived by three children, Judy (Byron) Barton, Farmington, UT; Robert (Sue) Palmer, Kaysville, UT; and Sally (Gordon, deceased) McWain, Bountiful, UT; seven grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by his wife Ruby, parents, eight brothers and two sisters.

Our tender giant will be missed by us all tremendously.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Kaysville Rock Chapel, 25 South 200 East, Kaysville, UT.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
