Delbert Helm

Delbert Helm, our devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 22, 2015 at his home. Delbert was born in Norfork, Arkansas on October 6, 1936 to Robert Floyd Helm and Myrl Estes Johnson. He married Sheila B. Dodge on July 10, 1958 and sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple on February 10, 1977.
Del served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1963 and retired from the Naval Reserve in 1988 with the rank of Master Chief. He retired after 39 years of civilian service at HAFB. He was a member the Riverdale Fire Department for 10 years.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His life was truly a life of service. Dad served in many positions within the community and in the church. Dad’s hobbies included spending time in the outdoors, photography, and reading. He loved driving long distances and exploring the backroads to anywhere.
Del is survived by his wife, Sheila; their children, Shelly (Steve) Aberton, South Jordan; Jill (Les) Smith, Perry; Cindy (James) Burton, Roy; Leslie (David) Harris, Hooper; Steven Helm, Springdale, AR; Melanie (Steve) Swenson, Roy; and Russell Helm, Riverdale. He is also survived by his sister, Myrtle (Don) Watkins of Cave City, AR, 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Riverdale 2 nd Ward Chapel, 5490 South 1200 West. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
