Delbert Taylor

Delbert Taylor passed away on January 3, 2013 after fighting a courageous battle with Alzheimer''s disease. This horrible disease took his life, but not his spirit, which he clung to until the end.

Delbert "Dell" and twin brother, Melvin "Mell" were born in Pleasant Grove, Utah on August 19, 1932. They were the 9th and 10th child born to Melvin and Myrtle Christensen. Their mother Myrtle passed away due to complications of their birth.

The twins were adopted by a wonderful loving couple, Stanley and Mildred Taylor of Provo, Utah. The Taylor''s later adopted four other children.

Dell grew up in Provo, Utah graduating from Provo High School in 1950. He also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and served his country with pride in Korea for two years.

Dell married Janet Llewellyn on December 14, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had five special children together. They were divorced on December 19, 1976.

He attended Brigham Young University, and then went to work as a Regional Sales Rep. in four states with Beeline and Frontier Oil Company, which later became Standard Oil. He leased and operated many service stations in the inter-mountain area and Las Vegas, plus a truck stop/restaurant in Salt Lake. In later years, he was self-employed in sales and marketing.

Dell met Joann Comeau Bohn at a church singles dance. They danced into each other''s arms and never looked away. They married one year later on May 23, 1980.

He was a faithful active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served with dedication in many positions. He was Executive Secretary for 10 years under two Bishoprics, served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple, and loved planning activities with his wife Joann as ward activity chairman for many years and also served as ward and stake dance directors.

Dell served faithfully for 8 years on three different part-time service missions on temple square, until his Alzheimer''s disease prevented him from completing his last mission call. One of his greatest joys was taking visitors from all over the world on tours through the Joseph Smith Building and the LDS Conference Center. He had a strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and he expressed that many times.

He and his wife enjoyed dancing with six dear friends in a group called the Foxy Trotters, entertaining in various places all around the valley. They also enjoyed dancing to a wonderful band at the Washington Terrace and Golden Hour Senior Centers five days a week, where he enjoyed dancing with almost everyone there.

With his family and friends he enjoyed hunting, boating, fishing, playing golf, riding snowmobiles and staying in the condo. He was always fun and the life of the party before the disease gradually took away his memory.

Dell is survived by his loving wife, Joann; children, Jeanine (Will) Davidson, Brent (Dusty deceased) Taylor, Kathleen (Shane) Whiting, David (Leslie) Taylor, Daren (Tyra) Taylor; stepchildren, Mickey, Robert and John Comeau; many special grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Merl Gerrard, Carma Christensen, twin Melvin Taylor, Wanda Wright, Thomas Taylor, Tim Taylor and Jackie Livingston.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Burch Creek 5th Ward, 4955 Adams. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
