Della Sodenkamp Denning

July 18, 1923 ~ July 21, 2015

On Tuesday, July 21, 2015 the earth lost the greatest mother, friend and grandmother. It has left us with a big void in our hearts.

Della Sodenkamp was born on July 18, 1923 to Albert C. and Mary Ann Bird Schiffman in Mendon, Utah; she was the oldest of seven children. She was a hard worker all of her life, thinned beets, worked in the fields and tended her younger siblings. She was also an avid gardener, seamstress and great cook.

She was a faithful member of the LDS Church all of her life where she served as a visiting teacher, Primary teacher and various other callings.

Della was a kind, loving and generous person. She would help anyone and opened her purse when she saw a need, family was everything.

She married Leslie S. Lewis and they had three children, Charma Richardson (Dave), Hooper; Les Lewis (Sue), Roy; Sherry McCoy (Harvey, deceased), Roy. Della and Leslie later divorced. She married the “love of her life” George N. Sodenkamp and two more children came to the family, John Sodenkamp (Valeen), Pahrump, NV; and George Sodenkamp, Jr., Roy. She has many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Della and George traveled the USA and Mexico; they enjoyed fishing, dancing and spending winters in Quartzsite, AZ. George passed away leaving Della lonely and broken-hearted. Their marriage was sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple.

She married William Denning and they had ten happy years together. He preceded her in death in 2013.

The family extends a special thank you to Peachtree Place and staff for their loving care and IHC Hospice, especially Trisha, for her kindness and care of our mother.

We were so blessed having her in our lives.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. The family will meet with friends Monday, July 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
