DeLoris Peterson West
FRUIT HEIGHTS – DeLoris Peterson West (88) passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019 in Austin, Texas due to natural causes.
She was born May 17, 1930 in Ovid, ID to Oliver Lauren and Hazel Lindsay Peterson. She was raised in Ovid where she excelled in school, graduating from Fielding High School with High Honors. She later attended LDS Business College. On August 27th 1951, she married her sweetheart, Reed “Z” West in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was active in the LDS church and served in many church positions in Relief Society and Primary. She was a dedicated visiting teacher and was one of the best Nursery leaders ever. With her husband, she served an LDS mission in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission and also as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple.
She was extremely intelligent and chose to make her career “Motherhood”. She was the mother of nine children, which were the joy of her life. DeLoris loved English and Literature, especially Shakespeare and was the family editor for many of her children’s school papers. She loved traveling and visited every state in the United States, many of the Canadian Provinces, Germany, Denmark, France, Mexico, Guatemala, Egypt, Jordan and Israel. She even rode a camel up Mount Sinai.
She is survived by four daughters and three sons: Lynne (Michael) Criddle of West Valley UT, Dale (Debbie) West of Layton UT, LaMar (Sharon) West of American Falls ID, Anita (Richard) Sheffield of Austin TX, Marilyn Warren of Ogden UT, Amy (Mark) Ball of Renton WA and David (Kim) West of Draper UT; 32 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren, all of whom she remembered every birthday. DeLoris is also survived by her brother, Lathair Peterson of Ovid ID.
DeLoris was preceded in death by her husband, Reed; daughters, JoAnn Schuller and Jan Golightly; parents; and siblings, Eldon Peterson, Dennis Peterson, Genevieve Peterson, Myrtle Martinson, Dee Peterson, and Calvin Peterson. She will be long remembered for her loving and forgiving nature.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25, 2019 11 a.m. at the Fruit Heights Stake Center, 170 North Mountain Rd., Fruit Heights. Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
