Delsa Davis Colvin

June 10, 1930 ~ July 22, 2018

Our sweet wife, mother, and grandmother, Delsa Davis Colvin passed from this life on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at her home in North Ogden, where she was surrounded by her family.

Delsa was born at her parent’s home in Farr West, Utah the daughter of James A. and Zola Davis on June 10, 1930.

She was reared to adulthood in Farr West.  Delsa graduated from Weber High School where she served as secretary of the student body.  She excelled in music as a member of the marching band.  Delsa and her sister Marion played clarinet duets at many events and for congregations throughout Weber County.

She went on to attend Weber College, where she earned her degree in Secretarial Science. While at college Delsa served as vice president of the sophomore class and as president of the Sharmea Social Club.  She was recognized in the school newspaper as “the most friendly girl on campus”.

Delsa served for years as a secretary with the United States Forest Service and First Security Bank where she served as personal secretary to one of the vice presidents.

On August 29, 1951, Delsa was married in the Salt Lake Temple to Don F. Colvin. They have enjoyed 67 happy years of marriage together. Don and Delsa are the parents of two sons, Scott (Marilyn) Colvin of Kalispell, Montana and Roger (Sonya) Colvin of Harrisville, Utah.

The greatest joy and treasure in Delsa’s life was her family, consisting of her husband and their two sons along with their wives and her ten special grandchildren (Sara, Amy, April, Shane, Stacey, Jamie, Chris, Jana, Laura and Nick) as well as her 16 great grandchildren who all loved her dearly.

Delsa was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in various callings throughout her life.  She was an exceptional organist and piano accompanist. She had only one year of piano lessons but was blessed with great musical ability and was able to teach herself to play the organ.  She could play any song by ear. Delsa loved to play the organ and was initially called at age 12 as a ward organist.  She continued to serve in that capacity wherever she lived, for a total of 75 years.  She also served as an organist and secretary for the Lindquist North Ogden Mortuary for 25 years. Delsa was often requested by friends and family members to play at their funerals.  Between these requests and her service at the mortuary she played as the organist for over 500 funerals.  Her musical talent was a great source of joy to her family, as well as to many others.

Delsa was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, where she served in various capacities.  She also enjoyed her membership and association as a member of the Mistae Literary Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Marion and Lorraine, and her brother Jay. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her sister Evelyn (Richard) Gibby.
