Denis Merrill Petersen

February 10, 1934 ~ October 23, 2016

FARR WEST - Our beloved husband, dad, brother, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Denis Merrill Petersen, returned to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 23, 2016.  He was born on February 10, 1934 to Merrill and Cora Petersen in Granger, Utah later moving to Farr West, Utah to live for the remainder of his life.  He loved growing up on the farm with his nine siblings and built his home close to his parents after he was married.  He married the love of his life and eternal companion, Taunya Merris Yearsley on June 25, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They have thoroughly enjoyed this life together and look forward to the next one together as well.  Denis and Taunya raised four children and have 18 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren, all whom adore Grandpa Denis.

Denis worked at Hill Air Force Base, Marquardt, and Flameco and started his own business in his garage, which grew and turned into Petersen Incorporated.  Denis was an active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities within the church including Bishop and a mission to inner-city Ogden.  He loved to be with his family and enjoyed camping, traveling, golfing, square dancing, Sunday dinners, the Causey cabin, trips to the Wyoming ranch, sitting at the pond, McDonald’s with friends, Bar J Wranglers, making homemade Chicken Noodle Soup, and welding his own original creations.  He is loved by many friends and family and was known as a friend to all.

Denis will be remembered as having one of the best personalities and biggest hearts around and one who could remember any poem, song or metallurgy he had ever learned.

Denis is survived by his wife, Taunya; their children, Denise (Jerry) Crawford, Steven (Polly) Petersen, Julie (Ron) Cloward, and son-in-law Mike Grange; his brothers, Roger and Bob Petersen; sisters, Marge Cornelius and Marsha Porter; and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his dad and mom, his youngest daughter, Joy; and siblings, Ronald, Betsy, Keith, Jay, and Jerry.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Farr West Poplar Stake Center, 1745 N. 2300 W. in Farr West.  Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the stake center.  Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.

We would like to give special thanks to Encompass Hospice, especially Tammy, Valerie, and Karen for their loving services rendered to Denis.
