OGDEN a€" Denise Ann Smith Martinez, 58, died Thursday, January 13, 2011 at her home in Ogden.

She was born September 20, 1952 in Hailey, Idaho, a daughter of LaVar and Delores Sparks Smith. She was raised and educated in Roy where she was a cheerleader and involved in the music program.

Denise married Marc Russell and together they had Eli. They later divorced. She married Michael LeRoy Martinez on March 12, 1976 in Ogden and together they had Jocelyn.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Denise was a licensed practical nurse in the A.C.T. Department at Ogden Regional Medical Center where she helped countless people.

She was very kind hearted, loved to read and play the piano. She and Michael cared for 20 foster children and loved her grandbabies.

Surviving are her husband, Michael, of Ogden; two sons and one daughter, Eli Russell and Michael Martinez, both of Roy; Jocelyn Martinez, Salt Lake City; and her two grandbabies, Mykala and Zack.

Also surviving are her mother, Delores Smith, Roy; two brothers and one sister, Layton (Becky) Smith, Layton; Laird (Carolyn) Smith, Vernal; and Debbie (Robert) Steed, Brigham City.

Preceding Denise in death was her father.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Family will meet friends at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 1 to 1:45 p.m.

Entombment, Good Shepherd Abbey Mausoleum at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
