1961-2015
Denise passed away early on the morning of March 24th in South Weber, Utah with her husband and daughter by her side.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah September 28th 1961 to Stan and Marillyn Nelson. She was a bright-eyed, blonde toe-head and would be the second of their five children. Her childhood was filled with fun and excitement, always revolving around immediate family as well as extended family. Family meant everything to Denise.
Challenges in life came early, when at the age of ten she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. In 1982 she married Marvin Procter. They had been lifelong neighbors and friends and their courtship continued for the remainder of their life together. The greatest joy in her life was to be mother to their daughter Hillary. Health challenges continued with the diagnosis of progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Denise faced each new health problem that these diseases caused with dignity and grace, always stating that they were just “bumps in the road.” Through all the adversity she faced she always found a way to be happy as well as encourage and inspire everyone she met. She led an active and productive life even though she was confined to a wheel chair for many years. Children were drawn to her because of her warm and friendly personality. Many children consider her the best primary teacher they ever had. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in many callings claiming that each calling was the best calling in the church. She found great joy in attending the Temple and with the help of family and friends was able to attend weekly. Denise conducted her life with a high degree of integrity that was evident to all who met her. Even in death she continues to teach us about grace, patience, love, wit and humor. She will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by her infant son, Jonathan. Survived by her husband Marvin, daughter Hillary Kennedy (Michael), grandson Talen, granddaughter Bentley, her parents Stan and Marillyn Nelson, Siblings, Brian Nelson (Mirin), Cynthia Knight, Greg Nelson (Janette), Lance Nelson, and many extended family members.
We would like to thank Dr. John Martinez and the staff at the wound clinic at McKay Dee hospital. Your kindness and friendship made her last few months not only tolerable, but something she enjoyed and looked forward to everyday.
