Dennis Wheeler Draper, 76, passed away peacefully in his home on Christmas morning, December 25, 2023. He was born on March 19, 1947, in Ogden, Utah. He was the son of Terrance H and Gladys Fay Wheeler Draper. He grew up in Slaterville and graduated from Weber High School.
He was drafted by the US Army and served one tour in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart. After his service in Vietnam, he worked as an aircraft re-fueler at Hill Air Force Base where he later retired in 2011. He served as a civil servant for over 40 years.
Dennis married Elaine Avis on August 9, 1974, in Ogden, Utah, where they were sealed in the Ogden Temple. They then welcomed six children into their family. At his passing, they were married just shy of 50 years.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Dennis enjoyed the outdoors; camping, hunting, and fishing were a big part of his life. He
also liked to collect cans, but most of all he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Elaine; his sons, David (Karen), Darrin (Shantelle), Matthew (April), and Richard; his daughters, Mary (Mike) and Pam (Michael); his cherished 14 grandchildren; his brother, Blaine; and sister, Marilyn. He was preceded in death by his parents, and many aunts and uncles and cousins.
The family would like to give special thanks to the hospice care nurse’s Julie and Tiffiany for their great care of Dennis.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Pioneer Ward, 250 North, 1500 West, in Marriott-Slaterville. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, West Warren Cemetery.
