Dennis Field

Dennis Leroy Field, of Rancho Mirage, California, passed away on September 27, 2024. He was born on September 29, 1959, in Ogden Utah, the son of Larry Lavere Field and Bonnie Hadley Field. After graduating from Roy High School in 1978, he took medical courses at Weber State University and performed home health care services before moving to California in 1980.

Dennis then began a career in the travel industry, serving as the hotel contract manager for Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays and then taking a corporate position with Sitmar Cruise Line. For many years, Dennis held travel management positions with motion picture and television studios, including The Walt Disney Company and Carsey-Warner Television. His work with Disney, in was extraordinary. When a production needed a particular trained elephant but the location prohibited the importation of elephants; he found a way to get it across the border. When Hurricane Iniki struck Kauai forcing an entire production crew to seek shelter in a hotel ballroom, he managed their prompt return to the mainland notwithstanding closure of the airport.

Dennis later established his own travel agency known as Field Trips Travel, but one vocation wasn’t enough for him. He studied interior design and architecture and became an interior designer. He worked with a residential property developer to design and furnish the interiors of model homes and had a roster of private residential clients. Dennis’ gifts for organization and design were seen in everything he did, from creation of floral centerpieces for charity banquets, to full event planning. He also was an excellent cook and host who often opened his home for parties to benefit organizations he supported.

For Dennis, live theater trumped television or motion pictures for entertainment. He was a long- time supporter of Los Angeles’ Center Theater Group, serving as co-chair of its donor group for nearly two decades. He also supported the La Jolla Playhouse and other regional theater companies.

In April 1994, Dennis met H. Douglas Galt who, for the next 30 years, was his life partner and, from October 2013, his husband. He is survived by Doug, his father Larry Field, his brothers and sisters-in-law Kelly Field and Peggy Field, Michael Field, Stephen Field and Kris Field, and Scott Field and Pamela Field; his sister and brother-in-law Allison Field Almeida and Roger Almeida; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in the Community Center at Lindquist's Office Building, 3434 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.

A Graveside service will follow at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. at approximately 2:30 pm. Following the graveside services, a luncheon will be held at the Lindquist's Community Center, from approximately 3 to 5:00 pm.
