Our tender and beloved father and grandfather, Dennis R. Haines, passed away the evening of September 13, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 27, 1933. Dennis used the last breaths of his life to pronounce the names of those he loved, including his sweetheart Anna Laura Palmer Haines, who preceded him in death. Dennis and Laura were a beautiful couple and had many happy years together. The stories of their courtship and marriage have been an inspiration to their children. After Laura passed away, Dennis continued to be a generous and kindly father, grandfather, and uncle, who took time to make the people in his life feel loved and cherished. He was a friend to his father-in-law, Hartley Palmer, and spent time visiting him regularly in Hartley''s later years. He also spent many happy hours hosting family get-togethers and traveling to visit grandchildren in Utah and Nevada. We appreciate our father for all the memories he created with us: all the lunches, fishing trips, football games, John Wayne movies, sleepovers, holidays, laughter, advice sessions, church activities, and blessings. We honor him with all of our hearts.

Dennis served his country in the Korean Conflict and returned in amazing physical shape. He worked jobs in construction and became a skilled carpenter, personally building several houses, and remodeling many others. He used his talents to help many friends and family make their homes more comfortable.

Dennis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. Most recently he enjoyed serving as a home teacher with Brent Johnson. Our father spent his life teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.

Dennis was also preceded in death by a daughter, Laurie Denise Haines, by his parents, Thomas and Rhoda Haines and by his brother Edsel Haines. He is survived by a sister Afton Krupa, his four children: Douglas R. Haines, Shirley (Richard) Benner, James (Donna) Haines, and Julie Kay (Todd) Shelton. He is also survived by 22 wonderful grandchildren and six precious great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Mountain View Building, 2620 E. 8200 S., in South Weber, Utah. Friends may visit with family Friday, September 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N Fairfield Road and at the ward house prior to funeral services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment, Grantsville City Cemetery.

The family would like to thank IHC Hospice Care for their gentile treatment of our father and the many neighbors and friends who have provided inspired service to our family during a difficult time.

We invitea€"and thank in advancea€"those who knew our father to write down a story about him and send it to tjshelton@q.com or mail it to Julie Shelton, 8078 S 2475 E., South Weber, UT 84405.
