Dennis Kent Holmes
A great heart stopped beating today, February 27, 2012, at McKay-Dee Hospital, after a valiant 12 year fight with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in Ogden, Utah to Parley C. Holmes and Ione Bailey Holmes on September 21, 1938.
He served with pride and honor in the US Army, 77th Special Forces Airborne "Anything, Anyplace, Anyhow".
He married the love of his life Beverly C. Ellis, later solemnized in the Laie, Hawaii LDS Temple. They had a love affair for the ages, that ended only for awhile on February 27, 2012, until they are together again. He cherished her and she him, and together they raised three well-loved children. They lived and worked in Brigham City, UT; Washington, DC; San Francisco, CA; and retired to Wailea, Maui, Hawaii; where he developed a sickness for golf.
He is survived by his beloved wife Beverly, his children: Michael (Evelyn) Holmes, Memphis, TN; Catherine Holmes, Burke, VA; Paul (Kelly) Holmes, Roy, UT; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and his brother Douglas Holmes, Ogden, UT.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Liberty Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. following the graveside service at the Country Oaks Ward, 2680 E. Cherry Lane, Layton, Utah.
