Dennis Yukinori Kida

February 8, 1922 ~ October 29, 2018

Dennis Yukinori Kida, 96, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He was born on February 8, 1922 in Hilo, Hawaii, to Kenzo Kida and Miyuki Aoki Kida.

Dennis grew up in Hilo. He enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, where he was part of the highly-decorated 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Italy.  After the war, Dennis met a Colorado farmgirl, Chika Kosuge, in Honolulu, Hawaii, when she was a nurse and he was a patient.  They were married on Dennis’ birthday in 1951 and lived in Baltimore, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia before settling in Roy, Utah in 1959.  Dennis trained as an X-ray technician at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and after moving to Utah, retired from a 28 year career at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden.

Dennis and Chika enjoyed golfing, bowling, RV-ing, boating, and fishing with friends and family.  After Chika’s passing in 2009, Dennis remained active and independent; daily lunch with friends at the Riverdale Senior Center, bowling on Tuesdays, church on Sunday and making his famous dried apples. Dennis was immensely proud of his granddaughters and was navigator and tour guide during numerous trips back to Hawaii with them. He was a kind and gentle man; he may have left Hawaii decades ago, but the Aloha never left him.

Dennis is survived by son, Wes (Peggy) of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Hideo Kida; and sister, Mitsuko Fukuda of Honolulu, HI; and two grandchildren, Cambrie and Kylie.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Chika, son, Steven; his parents; two sisters; and six brothers. Dennis’ family thanks his many friends, neighbors, relatives and fellow members of the Ogden Japanese Christian Church for all their love and support.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Aloha attire optional. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 12 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
