1949 ~ 2009

Dennis Ross Powell, 60, passed away on March 21, 2009 in his home surrounded by family, after a long and difficult year battling cancer.

Dennis was born on March 3, 1949 in Ogden, Utah as the oldest child to Ross and Marianna Powell. He grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1967. Shortly after graduation, he joined the US Coast Guard. While stationed in California, he met and married Marsha Conrad. Together they raised three wonderful children: Lucas, Travis, and Cassie. After being discharged from the Coast Guard he worked at Hill Air Force Base where he held a number of jobs over the course of three decades.

Dennis could fix just about anything and was always helping friends, neighbors and family with different projects. His greatest joys in life were fishing with his "much younger" best friend, Mike, and spending time with his children and his grandchildren. Up until the end, his grandchildren always had the ability to make him smile! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Marsha; two sons, Lucas Conrad (Elizabeth) Powell; Travis Ross Powell; a daughter, Cassie Rose (Ryan) Shurtleff; four grandchildren, Ellie, Jacob, Jackson, and Chase; his much-loved dog, Molly, who never left his side; one brother, Lee; and three sisters Roslyn, Margo and Dayna.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to Dr. John S. Friden for his invaluable care, love and support especially during the past year, as well as, the staff of Applegate Hospice for their love and attention. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
