DENNIS THURGOOD

1939-2021

Dennis Russell Thurgood passed away on June 29, 2021 at home surrounded by his family. He was 82 years old. Dennis was born on June 5, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to Russell and Mary Thurgood. He was the oldest of four siblings and was raised in Clearfield, Utah.

Throughout his life, Dennis was a hard worker who set high expectations for himself and those around him. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and actively served throughout his life. He graduated from Davis High School and then attended Weber State University and made a career in construction.

Dennis married Katherine Springer on May 2, 1958, and together they had three children. His children are Marlow (Deanne), Julie Smith (Steve), and Stephanie Chetwood (Sam). He later gained a stepson Doug (Tiffini) Jensen.

In 1977, Dennis started his own business, DRTC Construction, and spent years pouring concrete. He was meticulous in his business, with his tools, and on his jobs. He had a deep sense of responsibility to do what is right and take care of those around him. Dennis was a big fan of the Utah Jazz and was a season ticket holder for years. He also loved golf and had a passion for road trips with his loved ones.

Family was always important to Dennis, and he loved to gather his family together and make spicy homemade pizza for everyone. He had 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and loved attending their activities, ball games, and recitals. After losing his first wife, Kay, Dennis eventually remarried Sue Millard on October 1, 2014. They spent their later years in St. George and spent many days driving through Utah’s beautiful scenery.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N 400 E, Bountiful, Utah and on July 7 from 9:30 – 10:30 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints meeting house on 1955 South 350 East in Kaysville, Utah. Funeral services will be held on July 7 at 11:00 am at the same meeting house. Dennis will be buried at the Farmington Cemetery.
