Deo A. Wolfard
SOUTH OGDEN – Deo Alvin Wolfard, beloved husband of Florence E. Wohlfarth Wolfard, passed away March 25, 2008 in Coronado, CA where his family had gathered to celebrate and enjoy life. He died with grace and dignity, ending his chronic physical difficulties.
Deo was the father of Victoria (nee Bonnie) (Jonathan) Williams, Boulder, CO; Wendi Wolfard (Max Holbrook), and Sally (Steve) Tasker, Ogden; the grandfather of John (Kristy) Glasmann, Escondido, CA; Bridgett Tasker, Colette (Wade) Layton, Yvette (William) Davis, Ogden; the oh-so-loved “Poppy” to great-grandchildren Kaylie Hanney, Haley Glasmann, Brooklyn and Tyler Deo Davis. Additional family members included Deo’s dearly loved step-family, the children and grandchildren of Wendi and Max. Deo is survived by his sister Wanda (Marvin) Bexell and by many nieces, nephews and friends. Deo was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Deo was born June 27, 1928 to Deo E. and Susie Jarrell Wolfard in Redlands, CA. He spent his early life in various places in WY, CO, and CA. After graduating from Ogden High School in 1946, he proudly joined the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Sgt. in the Marine Air Wing.
Deo met Florence on Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, on February 1, 1948 and they celebrated every February 1st thereafter. They were married May 30, 1949 at the First Methodist Church in Ogden. On their 50th wedding anniversary, Deo orchestrated a personal “Rose Parade” by presenting Florence with 50 dozen long-stemmed roses – one rose for each month of their marriage.
Early in Deo’s career, he served on the Utah Highway Patrol. A self-made man, in his life’s profession as a salesman and entrepreneur he launched many successful businesses. Among them were Elite Mart, the Ben Lomond Golf Course, and Stop N Shop Market. His pinnacle achievement was the creation of Goldfleck Land Corporation. Deo had the foresight to buy a mountain and open it for people to enjoy recreational activities.
Deo was a people-person through and through. Deo and Florence enjoyed golfing with friends and were members of the Ogden Golf and Country Club for many years. He was a founding member of the Weber State Wildcat Club. Whether golfing, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, motor-homing, or playing cards, it was always a party!
