On January 26, 1967 a beautiful sunny day was born a blue eyed blonde boy who was his mother''s heart, the son of Kent, brother of Stephanie. He was her friend, champion and occasional tormenting teaser. He was a grandson of Marie, who loves him dearly. He loved the theatre, Beach Boys music and the color blue, the series MASH and anything chocolate.

Survived by: parents, Kent and Donna Yano, sister, Stephanie Yano, grandmother, Marie Nickerson, uncles and aunts, Bill and Paula Nickerson, Rick and Sandra Nickerson Kurcab, Robert and Jean Nickerson Wilson, Nita Nickerson and Roy Call, cousins, Abe Nickerson, Cortney Nickerson, Sebastion Alzygaray, Brooke and Todd Henderson, Jim Leese, Dean Kurcab, Sarah Nickerson Wilson, and Nicole Sullivan.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Abe Nickerson and David E. and Artella Nelson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

A special thank you to Love Hospice for their overwhelming care and kindness to Derek these past few months. The family of Derek is so appreciative of the efforts of the various Dr''s., nurses and staff at Huntsman Cancer Institute as well as the staff of University Hospital in the treatment to our son.

We now lay to rest a kind man and gentle soul.

We love and will miss you forever.
