DeVon J. Price

During the late evening hours of January 2, 2019, our Dad and "Family Rock" passed away peacefully from his existence here on earth and into the loving arms of all the loved ones who have gone before.

Dad said many times, "if I go tomorrow do not cry for me or be sad, just know that I had a wonderful life and I am happy and content and in a better place." DeVon J. Price was born September 13, 1926, in Malad, Idaho to Edward J. Price and Sarah Blanche Chivers. DeVon had fond memories of being raised in Malad, Lava and Henderson Creek, Idaho. Being the great storyteller that he was, he often shared these fond memories with us and at the age of 90 he went on to write a book about the “History of DeVon J. Price.” As a family, we feel this was a great accomplishment that we will cherish forever.

DeVon was a man who loved his country. He with many of his friends joined the Marine Corps during WWII where he was given the title of Tank Instructor USMCR. While he was waiting to be inducted into the service he met a beautiful girl, Hope John. DeVon said their love outshined their worries of a quick wedding. They were married February 22, 1945, 3 days before he left for boot camp training at Camp Pendleton. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on March 23, 1949. DeVon and Hope shared eight very special years together, including the blessing of their beautiful baby girl, Jeannette. Hope passed away November 3, 1953 due to an extended illness.

On July 29, 1955, he returned to the Logan Temple marrying his second wife, Mary Allen Castleton. Mary had a lovely daughter named Tamara. Over the years DeVon and Tamara shared a very special father/daughter relationship. DeVon and Mary shared fifty-six wonderful years together before she passed away from an extended illness on August 30, 2011.

He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 33 years as a Civil Engineer. DeVon was a very active man throughout his life. Some of his hobbies included basketball, hunting, fishing, storytelling (Oh, the stories he could tell!) and camping with his family at his favorite sites in Jackson Hole, WY and Yellowstone Park. He loved seeing the Bar J Wranglers and made lasting friendships with them as he would deliver fresh peaches to them every Fall.

DeVon had a profound love for the Gospel. He valiantly served in many positions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved serving with Mary inside the Ogden Temple and diligently studied the Gospel daily.

DeVon is survived by his two daughters, Jeannette Hagar (Corky) and Tamara Southwick (Rod); his brother, Neal Price (Nancy); 11 grandchildren and their spouses, 32 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday, January 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Portage Utah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to a charity of your choice or to the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in Ogden.
