DeVona Toone

DeVona Toone “Together Again” Our beloved DeVona Gledhill Toone, 91, returned to the loving arms of her Heavenly Father, November 16, 2007 in St. George, Utah. DeVona was born December 18, 1915 in Vermillion, Utah to James William and Effie Jean Ainsworth Gledhill. Married for time and all eternity to George Washington Toone July 12, 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She served faithfully as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had an amazing love for and testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ and His gospel that she shared openly and often with her children and grandchildren. DeVona and her sweetheart, George, served a full-time senior mission with Native Americans in Rapid City, South Dakota from 1979 to 1980 where they gained a sacred respect and love for the people and their ways. DeVona was blessed with many talents which she, in turn, blessed others with. She loved making hand-dipped chocolates and candies and everyone looked forward to their own box for Christmas. Her homemade wheat bread was the ultimate comfort food. And who could forget her cinnamon rolls! She tended a beautiful garden and created lovely works that she crocheted and knitted as well as being a talented seamstress. Her mind was clear and sharp to the day she passed. She was always up for a good game and you had better watch out because she usually won. As she aged she would say that she couldn’t see the cards or the dice very well, but we think it was a ploy. She still won practically every time! Even with her many years, her children loved taking her on trips. Her favorite was to France to her granddaughter, Carolene’s, wedding. Even though DeVona was 83 years old at the time, she said she “wouldn’t have missed it for the world.” This is how she was with all her family. She was always there full of love, support, and concern. DeVona is survived by her brother, Harold Gledhill; five of her six children, Sherlene (Julian) Wright, George Toone, Rodney (Norah) Toone, DeVon (Marie) Toone, ReNae Brewer, and daughters-in-law, Vikki (Paul) Kelly, Mary Ellen Toone, and Jean Toone; 25 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, son Kenneth Dee Toone and grandson Ryan Anthony Toone. DeVona leaves behind a large, loving legacy. She portrayed the true essence of a matriarch. Absolutely nothing came between her and her family and we will remember her great words of wisdom and love but most importantly, how she made us feel. She will be greatly missed! We love you Grandma! Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, November 23, 2007 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. where friends 9:45- 10:45 am prior to services. Internment Lakeview Memorial Estates, Bountiful. Condolences may be shared at www.lindquistmortuary.com
