De Wayne Merle Brockman

June 5, 1928 ~ February 20, 2019

De Wayne Merle Brockman “Dee or Brock” born on June 5, 1928, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2019. He was the son of Ernest and Alice Brockman. He married his sweetheart and life partner, Carol, 66 years ago.

Dee was born in Fairmont, Minnesota. He along with his family moved to Ogden, Utah during World War II where his father Ernest found work as a carpenter. After the war ended his parents and sister Peggy returned to Minnesota. Dee elected to remain in Ogden to finish high school. He enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to Fort Bragg, North Carolina to join the 82nd All American Airborne Division. Upon discharge he returned to Ogden. Dee worked for Swift Packing, Ogden Optical, and Weber Office Supply where he rose to store Manager. During this time he met and married Carol Jean Shewchuk.

After a great deal of thought, Dee elected to form his own business The Brockman Company. Owning a start-up business, Dee put in many difficult hours six days a week to ensure its success. He also felt it was important to be a member of volunteer organizations whose purpose was to improve his community. He served two terms as President of the Ogden Chamber of Commerce, one as President or the Ogden Exchange Club, and along with his wife Carol he was awarded the Book of Golden Deed’s from the Ogden Exchange Club. After having two open-heart surgeries, he volunteered for 25 years visiting heart patients at McKay-Dee, giving them encouragement. He especially enjoyed participating multiple times in the Logstar Program with Hill Air Force Base.

Nothing was more important to Dee than his wife and son Fritz. No matter how tired he was after a long day, he would still take time to spend with Fritz, his only child.  Depending on the time of year, Dee would be catching pitching practice, fishing, tote-goating, hiking, skiing, 4-wheeling, camping, bird hunting or just talking. Dee’s favorite times were when Fritz and he roamed every nook and cranny in Utah and surrounding states, whether it was the Pacific Coast Highway or a dirt path in Southern Utah. Just being with each other created a bond that Dee and Fritz treasured and nurtured.

Dee was the heart of his small family. His wife Carol, son Fritz and daughter-in-law Ruth were truly gifted to have such a loving, giving, and selfless man in their lives.

True to Dee’s wishes, a private family mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church.  He was interred beside his beloved Carol at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park.

The remaining family, Ruth and Fritz are forever grateful to those who provided support and kindness to Dee, the Treeo Staff and residents, Drs. John and Drollinger and Bryan Searle PA, Rocky Mountain Personal Care, Intermountain Healthcare Hospice, especially Sandy Ramirez and above all Julie Lee RN who provided so much of her time, medical guidance, compassion and loving support.
