DeWayne Raymond Jensen

October 12, 1938 ~ January 28, 2014

DeWayne Raymond Jensen, beloved dad, grandpa, and brother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the age of 75. He was born on October 12, 1938 in Logan, Utah to Merlin DeWayne and Nedra Dallof Jensen. He was a member of the LDS church.

He grew up in Cache Valley and later moved to the Ogden, UT area where he attended Ben Lomond High School and Weber State College.  He later worked as an Aircraft Parts Mechanic at HAFB, retiring in 1993 after 22 years of service.

In October of 1965, he married Beverly Brown.  They later divorced.  In 1970 and 1973, he and Beverly adopted two baby girls, who would later become his earthly pride and joy.  He enjoyed spending time with his girls, and often endured endless hours of window shopping with them.

After his retirement, he bought a small motor coach and indulged in two of his favorite pastimes…fishing and traveling.  After several years of travel, he sold his motor home and became a crossing guard for Ogden City Police Department.  Oh, how he loved those kids!  Their safety was his number one concern and gained the respect of parents and teachers alike.

A man in motion, DeWayne thrived when in service to others.  Whether it was shoveling the snow from a neighbor’s driveway, mowing the lawn for a home-bound lady, or generously sharing fresh fruits and vegetables from his garden with all who visited him, it was clear to everyone how much he loved people.  He made friends easily and kept them endlessly.  His joking demeanor kept everyone in stitches…and on their toes!

DeWayne is survived by two sisters, Yvonne Samuelson, AK and Colleen Richardson, UT; and two brothers, Clinton Jensen, NV and Kent Jensen, UT.  He will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Linda (Kirk) and Debbie (Dan), and four grandchildren: Kyle, Jade, Greg, and Andy.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Brent and Stephen.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Thatcher Brook Hospice, specifically Nikki and Judy, for their kind and loving care in our home and to Intermountain Hospice for the gentle, respectful care given to Dad in his final hours.  Words cannot express our appreciation for the devotion and fortitude you show towards your patients.  Thank you.
