Diana Van Alfen Prawitt

Diana Van Alfen Prawitt 1934 - 2009 NORTH OGDEN - My beloved Wife and our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother passed from this mortal life on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 from the effects of Alzheimer''s Disease.

She was born May 1, 1934, in Ogden, UT, one of seven children of John Van Alfen and Pauline Herbert Van Alfen. She was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1952.

She married George Prawitt on September 2, 1953, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They initially made their home in Ogden, but moved on assignment with the U.S. Army to Yokohama, Japan in 1955, where their first child was born. George and Diana later brought three more children into the world.

Diana was active in the LDS Church all her life and gave many years of loving, dedicated service to her many church callings. She served faithfully as a teacher in the Primary, Young Women''s and Relief Society programs, and as Relief Society and Primary President. Most recently she served with her husband in the Inner City Ogden Mission.

Diana spent much of her married life moving her family to follow her military husband--18 moves in 22 years, taking her children to many parts of the world. She brought cheer and stability to her family despite all the stresses associated with moving so frequently, and she was an exceptional planner. Diana''s heart was free of malice or guile. She devoted her whole soul to being the most loving, selfless wife, mother, and grandmother a family could ever ask for. Diana enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting, camping and sight-seeing with her family. She was an avid reader and taught her four children the joys of reading. She was a meticulous housekeeper and an expert family financial manager until stricken with Alzheimer''s. Her beautiful smile, which so often illuminated her countenance and brightened others'' hearts even to her very last days, together with her kindness and her loving, gentle, quiet ways will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, George, of North Ogden, and by her four children: Gregory (Debbie) of Bountiful; Laurie (Mike) of North Ogden; Carolyn (Kevin) of Pleasant View; and Douglas (Meryll) of Springville, UT. She is also survived by one sister, two brothers, 24 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Heart-felt thanks to the loving care given by angels from Washington Terrace Care Center, Hospice For Utah, and Hearts For Hospice, as well as many kind and caring friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
