Diane Thurgood Asplund, 70, beloved wife of Allan Lee Asplund of Syracuse, Utah, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 2nd, 2018, after valiantly battling pancreatic cancer with dignity and grace.
Diane was born on April 29, 1948 in Nampa, Idaho, to Donna S. and Roy E. Thurgood. She graduated from Vallivue High School in 1966 and attended Brigham Young University, where she graduated with a degree in early childhood education in 1971.
She married the love of her life, Allan Lee Asplund, in the Cardston, Alberta temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, on April 14, 1971. They spent most of their married life in the central valley of California before moving to retire in Lake Tahoe and then Utah.
Diane taught kindergarten for over 25 years and was smart, talented and full of loving kindness for the hundreds of her student children over the years. Teaching was one of Diane’s true gifts, one that came so naturally to her and one that she loved sharing.
Diane was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spent her life in generous service to her church and those around her. She and Allan faithfully served missions all over the world, including China, India, Europe and Australia.
Diane was a cherished wife, daughter, sister, friend, mother and especially adored grandmother. Surviving are her husband Allan, sons Jason Wendle (LeAnne) and Aaron Lee (Debbie) Asplund, daughters Brittany Dawn Hanamaikai and Karli Michelle (Chris) Grover. She is also the adored grandmother of 17 grandchildren.
Diane loved to travel and to serve others, but her greatest joys came from her time spent with her family and her husband.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Donna, and her infant son, Ryan.
