It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Diane Larson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She departed this life on December 15, 2024, at 67 years of age at her home in Park City, Utah.
Diane was born on June 10, 1957, in Ogden, Utah to William and Betty Underwood. She grew up with her twin brother Dean, younger brother Mark, and younger sisters Janice and Lisa. Her family moved often as she was growing up; she spent time living in Utah, Washington, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and California. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she met Dard Larson. She and Dard fell in love and were sealed in the Oakland California Temple on May 5, 1978, before moving to Southern California to raise their family. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Their marriage was marked by selfless support of the other through life’s responsibilities and challenges.
Diane’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother to Andrea, Derek, April, Alyssa, and Drew, and became a mother to those who married into her family: Jarom, Megan, Jonathan, Scott, and Emily. She cherished her role as mother and homemaker. She was renowned locally for her delicious chocolate chip cookies and other baked goods. Diane consistently taught her children true principles, both in word and example. She valued her responsibility to make her home a sacred place. To that end, she worked hard to organize and decorate her home, symbolic of the love and care she gave to her family.
She was lovingly known as Grammy to her grandchildren. She was an adoring grandmother to Kacy, Ryan, Paige, Brooke, Devin, Ada, Julia, Clara, Grant, Audrey, Owen, Amelia, Matthew, Aria, Seth, Daniel, Kyle, Miles, and Rose. Each grandchild had an individual relationship with Grammy and felt her love.
Diane loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served faithfully in various callings in His church. She served as Primary President, Young Women leader, Relief Society President, and Stake Relief Society President, among other callings. Her dedication to serve was deep and those she served felt her Christlike love. She was known for her creativity and knack for design, which she used to testify of truth and touch individual lives. She served the Lord with all her heart, might, mind, and strength.
The last chapter of Diane’s life was marked by intense health challenges that limited her physical abilities. She suffered from chronic migraine headaches, along with other ailments, that kept her mostly homebound and bedridden. Despite these challenges, she continued to love and serve her family in her own way. She regularly connected with children and grandchildren virtually and never missed an opportunity to shop online to celebrate birthdays and Christmas with thoughtful presents. Whenever there was an important family event, whether it was a family reunion, a grandchild’s baptism, or the birth of a new grandchild, she would push through the pain to travel and be present. Each time, she recognized prayer and Christ’s divine grace as enablers for her to be present at these important events.
Diane is survived by her sweetheart and caretaker, Dard. Few men have ever loved and served a wife as selflessly as he. The family recognizes Dard’s Christlike service to Diane and appreciates the support of local friends and ward members who have and will continue to connect with and support Dard.
Diane’s quiet suffering deepened her relationship with Jesus Christ. She testified of the strengthening power of His Atonement and moved on from this life as one who was stalwart in the faith.
