Djuana Curtis

Djuana Gae Zeigner Curtis, our daughter, sister, mother, cousin, niece, and friend passed away peacefully from this life surrounded by her family on April 24, 2014 after a 5 year spirited and courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer,.

Djuana was born on January 25, 1964 in Norwalk, CA to Kenneth and Gayle Carpenter Zeigner, the 4 ^th of 5 children. After some time in So. California, Djuana moved with her family to Cedar City, UT where she grew up and attended elementary school and graduated from Cedar City High School in 1982.  Djuana was very athletic and also a great swimmer, participating in and medaling in several areas of the Utah Special Olympics in the early 1980’s.

In 1987 Djuana married Victor “Sonny” Curtis in Cedar City, UT, which resulted in the birth of a daughter, Jami Lynn Curtis.  Djuana and Sonny later divorced and she remained unmarried.

Djuana worked in the Service Industry working in retirement and convalescent homes as a cook and housekeeper, and was a friend to many of the residents.

Surviving Djuana are her daughter, Jami Lynn; parents, Kenneth and Gayle Zeigner of Uintah; siblings, Tony (Sheri) Petsche, Cedar City; Danny (Monica) Petsche, Uintah; Dennis Petsche, Hobbs, New Mexico; and Shauna (David) Strand, Marina Del Rey, California. Djuana also leaves behind a very large family that includes many cousins, several nieces and nephews, and several aunts and uncles, and many, many friends.

Djuana was preceded in passing by her very close relatives, including her grandparents, George & Georgianna Carpenter; aunts and uncles, George (Jack) Carpenter, Georgianna Carpenter Winn, James Carpenter, and Terry Carpenter Parry, as well as others in her large extended family.

As Djuana wished, family and friends will gather for visitation and to pay their respects and bid her adieu on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of Djuana’s life at 11:00 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment will immediately follow the services at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden.

Djuana and her family would like to thank and express our sincere gratitude to the staff at the Huntsman Cancer Center at the University of Utah, in particular Dr. Theresa Werner, M.D., Dr. Ester Kannapel, M.D., Rachel, Stephanie, and Natalie, and many, many more that helped Djuana live a happy, productive life the past 5 years.  The family would like to encourage everyone to support and bring awareness to the battle to cure Ovarian Cancer that strikes too many.  In lieu of flowers, Djuana asks that contributions be made to the Huntsman Cancer Center.
