Dollie Arlene Smiley

LAYTON – Dollie Arlene Smiley, 91, passed away peacefully Monday, September 22, 2014 at her home.

She was born January 12, 1923 in Independence, Kansas, the daughter of Frank Lazerne and Pearl Elizabeth Welch Bates.  She was one of 11 children.

On March 28, 1948 she married the love of her life Francis E. Smiley in Grand Junction, Colorado.

She loved sewing, reading and crossword puzzles but most of all her family.

She is survived by two sons, David Lynn Smiley of Layton; Douglas Jay (Bridget) Smiley of Maumel, Arkansas; two granddaughters, five great-grandchildren, one on the way, one great-great-grandchild  and brother Harold Bates of Lenora, Kansas.

Preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Smiley, parents, five brothers and four sisters.

Graveside services will be held Saturday September 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
