At age 72, Kemp made his way through the veil and joined many of his loved ones. We know he would be happy to see them again.
Kemp was born on May 20, 1950, to parents lla Jane Shelton and Don Asa Butterfield. He was their first child. He had two younger sisters, D'ann and Sheila. Kemp was close with his family members. He spent a lot of his childhood with his grandparents, Olea and Leland Shelton and surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kemp attended Hillcrest High School and graduated in 1969. He studied at BYU and the U of U. We all know he was a true BYU fan. He spent many years expressing his emotions at the TV during the BYU games. He had a way with words as everyone knew. Kemp had a strong testimony of the gospel and a love for the Savior. He served a mission to Mexico City in 1970-1972. He loved the people he served.
When Kemp married Wendy Rogers on February 1,1985 his family grew from his sons, Michael Butterfield and Nathan Butterfield; daughters, Natasha Butterfield, and Elisha Butterfield; to include a daughter, Christy Sampson; and sons Ryan Sampson and Zach Butterfield.
Kemp loved history and learning about his family history. He loved being in the mountains camping and fishing. He liked to collect coins and watch western movies. He would call most people he knew pilgrims like John Wayne would in his movies. He loved to work in the garden and the yard when he was able to.
Kemp struggled on and off with health issues later on in his life. He passed away on December 30, 2022, from those health issues.
Kemp was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, D'ann. He is survived by his wife, Wendy; his children, Christy (Marc) Raynor, Mike Butterfield, Ryan (Adele) Sampson, Nathan (Leslie) Butterfield, Tasha (Dallin) Finch, Elisha Butterfield, Zach (Heather) Butterfield; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister, Sheila Kruger; and brother-in-law, Boos (Geri) Peterson.
Our brother, husband, father, and papa is gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. He will be missed.
