Don Austin Carter

Don Austin Carter KAYSVILLE – Don Austin Carter, 70, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 at his home. He was a great husband, father, and friend. His kind spirit and love was evident to all that he encountered. While few words can explain such a man, he will live long in the hearts of his family. He was born December 13, 1937 in Salt Lake City the son of Boyer Austin and Dorothy Ilene Don Carter. He attended Kaysville Elementary, North Davis Junior High School and graduated from Davis High School in 1956. He also attended the University of Utah. Don served in the U.S. Navy as a member of the Order of the Shellbacks, and sailed the seven seas. Don married Gay Ann Bargar on June 27, 1965 in Elko, Nevada. Gay was his lifelong partner and together they joined forces to overcome all of life’s endeavors. Don retired from UDOT after 38 years of service. He was skilled at surveying, strong in spirit and drive, and could out hike those half his age. He was a man’s man. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, camper and a life member of the Golden Spike Trap Shooting Club, and was proficient at all. He shared his skills with his family and friends and they all benefited from his expertise. Don enjoyed spending time as much time as possible with his grandchildren and family. He raised five children of his own, and many others that were not. Don was as tough as any man known, and his courage showed with everything he faced in the past few years. It was fitting that he passed on father’s day, as he was a great father. He never turned down a needy soul, nor did he hold a grudge. He was willing to teach all that would listen, and he was liked by all that knew him. He is survived by his wife Gay Ann, Kaysville; two sons, Austin Roger (Stacey) Carter, McCammon, ID; Justin Don (Megan) Carter, Layton; three daughters, Kim (Larry) Colatriano, Colorado Springs, CO; Kathy (Mark) Pozzuoli, Farmington; Kristen (Ray) Robbins, Layton; parents, Boyer and Dorothy Carter, Layton; and brother, J. Scott (Janice) Carter, Layton. Preceded in death by his grandmother, Kate B. Carter, grandfather, Austin Carter, sister, Sharon, uncle, Paul Carter and aunt, Kaye Smith. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery. The family would like to thank Dr. Shehab, Michelle Ellison and the Kidney Transplant Team.
