Don Chester Child

CLINTON, UTAH - Don Chester Child, passed away April 4, 2017 in Casa Grande Arizona from heart failure at the age of 83. He was born December 16, 1933 to Viola Butler and Leslie Lawrence Child. He was raised in Clinton, Utah.

Don had an incredible work ethic. He started working at Union Pacific Railroad while attending Davis High School and after graduation, took a second job at Hill Air Force Base. He also worked a third job building homes on weekends for many years. He built his own beautiful homes, in which he took great pride.

Don was married and sealed to Janet Rose Richeson in the Salt Lake Temple and together they had six children: Sandra Olsen (Randy, deceased), Stanley Don (Cathie), Keith Leslie (deceased), DeAnn Jenkins (Douglas), Carolyn Petersen (Gary), Bryan Lee (Kimberly). They later divorced.

Don was married and sealed to Maxine Morrison Marlor in the Salt Lake Temple and gained a son in this union, David Marlor (deceased).

Don loved everything “horse”. He trined, bred, raised and showed national champion purebred Arabian horses. He established his horse business; Child’s Arabians, in Clinton and later moved it to Layton.

Some of his other hobbies included Dutch oven cooking, rocks and gems, woodworking, spending time with his children at East Canyon Resort and his Sunridge property. He and Maxine had a winter home in Arizona and enjoyed their time and friends there. In earlier years, they traveled extensively.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he held many positions. He served in his Layton Ward bishopric and he and Maxine were service missionaries.

Don’s gardens were master works. He loved sharing the produce from his immaculate gardens.

He sincerely appreciated his associations with good neighbors and many friends.

Don is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Maxine, children, 22 grandchildren and   29   great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Spencer Child (Janet) and a sister Veta Bailey (Edgel). A brother, Lawrence Leslie (Virginia) and sister-in-law, Eileen Child, preceded him.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Clinton 15th Ward, 2841 W. 1300 N., Clinton, Utah.  Friends may visit family Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Clinton City Cemetery.
