Don Wood Perkes
May 25, 1923 ~ September 21, 2015
Don Wood Perkes, 92, passed away peacefully Monday, September 21, 2015 on his 70th wedding anniversary.
He was born May 25, 1923 in Sigurd, Utah to Israel Justice Perkes and Nellie Virgina Wood.
Don proudly served in the European theatre during WWII. After returning from the war, he married Dorothy May Baker on September 21, 1945 and was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. This union that lasted 70 years would produce three children: Don I (Teresa) Perkes, Hooper; Dennis (Marilyn) Perkes, Mesquite, NV; and Patricia (Shelley) King, Hooper.
Don and Dorothy both worked and retired from Defense Depot of Ogden.
He loved camping and hunting during his younger years. After they retired, they spent winters in Quartzsite, Arizona where they had numerous fun loving friends. They also very much enjoyed sharing laughs with their McDonalds group each weekend during his last few years. Don had a wonderful sense of humor and could be counted on for a good joke, story or prank that we will surely miss. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.
Don is survived by his loving wife and their three children 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
A special thanks to his doctors and Applegate Hospice for his care during the final days.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West. The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
