Donald Ray Burton
CLEARFIELD – Donald Ray Burton, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, July 16, 2016. He was born June 12, 1957 in Ely, NV to Jack Richard and Luana Garlick Burton. He spent time during his early years in Nephi, West Valley City, and Kearns where he graduated from high school. He lived for 30 years in Kearns and five years in Clearfield.
Don married Shelly Schofield in the Salt Lake Temple in 1977.
He is survived by his, parents, Jack and Luana, his wife Shelly, his son, Christopher and his beloved foreign exchange students: Jonas Nielsen, Jutland, Denmark, Helle Hansen, Copenhagen, Denmark, Anita Gilde, Norway, Hannah Gilde, Norway, Juliana Dias, Brazil, and Julie Vold, Norway; and seven grandchildren.
Also survived by brothers: Scott (Lucy) Burton, West Valley City; Kirk Burton, Roosevelt; Bryan Burton, West Valley City; brother-in-law Jeffery (Carolee) Schofield; sisters: Brenda (Steve) Remlinger, St. Joseph, MO; DeAnn (Tom) Brennan, Magna; Jana (Jeff) Austin, Magna; and Cynthia (Paul) Clough, sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father and mother-in-law.
A lifetime member of the LDS Church, Don was honored to serve in five bishoprics. He was a scout leader, primary teacher, young men’s counselor, Sunday school teacher, ward clerk, executive secretary, cub master, and a proud eagle scout.
He enjoyed gardening, camping, outdoor activities, cooking, service, and was an expert handyman.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. where friends may visit Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
