Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Donald Edmond Gilmore passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the age of 90, surrounded by his entire family.  He was born on Friday, October 13, 1933 in Monte Vista, Rio Grande County, Colorado to Pete Gilmore and Ruthe LoVene Frye.  He had three brothers, Gale, David, and Michael Earl and a sister Vicki Sue.

He married Renee Melaney at the white church house in Layton, Utah on July 18, 1958.  On July 17, 1959 they were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple.  They have three children; Denise Lovene Huff, Marsha (Kent) Holmes, and Michelle Gilmore.  They lived in Layton for one year, Sunset for 20 years and in Roy, Utah for 44 years.  After retiring they spent their winters in their motorhome in Arizona and in 2012 they purchased a home in St. George where they spent their last 11 winters.

Donald started working at Hill Air Force Base in the Motor Pool at the age of 18, retiring in 1989.  He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as 1st Counselor in the bishopric, High Priest Group Leader and Roy Stake High Council.

He enjoyed customizing his car and was vice president of the Salt Kings Hot Rod Club in Ogden during the 1950’s.  He loved traveling and camping and was a member of the Weber Waffies Good Sam’s Club where he served as a vice president and a wagon master.  He enjoyed boating at pineview dam and lake powell.  He liked playing cards and Rummikub every day with his wife. He was an avid fan of stock car racing and worked in the pit crew for a friend who raced in the 1950’s.  He enjoyed reading and would at least read four books per month.  His favorite hobby was collecting donald ducks and he had a Donald Duck room with hundreds of donald ducks of every variety.  He was also a century contributor to the Boy Scouts of America.

The light of his life was a visit from his six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
