Donald Alton Higgs age 69, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his beloved family, on October 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy marked by love, pride, and an unwavering dedication to his family, and faith. Born on December 23, 1954, in Ogden, Utah to Donald E. and Orlene Higgs; he was the oldest of their 10 children. Don graduated from Bonneville High School and Weber State University with both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission to Papeete, Tahiti, speaking both Tahitian and French, sharing his faith and making a difference in the lives of others. His unwavering beliefs guided him and were a source of comfort and strength to those who knew him.
On October 16, 1979, Don married the love of his life, Julieanne Hill, and for 45 years, they were side by side! Together, they created a strong, loving family, raising five children—three sons and two daughters. The family spent cherished years creating unforgettable memories; both here in the U.S. and traveling abroad.
As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he was affectionately called “Buddy” by them all, and he treasured each moment he spent with them. Teaching life lessons and skills…how to work hard—and play even harder. How to really enjoy life, and not just let it happen to you; to stand for something you know, to laugh, and eat healthy—but also have some treats and candy along the way.
Professionally, Don worked for both the Federal Government and the State of Utah, dedicating himself fully to each role he took on. His work was a source of pride, and he approached each task with the same love and diligence that characterized all aspects of his life. Beyond his career, he had an avid enjoyment of cars, spending countless hours in his workshop, pouring his heart into both maintaining, fixing, and bringing vehicles back to life.
Don leaves behind his loving wife, Julieanne; his children, the late Donald Nathan (Ashley) Higgs; Neldon (Mandy) Higgs; Aimee (Dave) Ferguson; Jace (Lori) Higgs; Katelan (Nick) Gale; 12 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Donald Nathan Higgs; his parents; three siblings; and other extended family members.
His life was a beautiful reflection of love, faith, and commitment. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers along the way that kept a close eye on Don.
In lieu of flowers, please pay it forward to someone, because that’s what Don/Dad/Buddy would do.
