Donald Hendrickson Jex

March 29, 1943 ~ February 16, 2022

Donald Hendrickson Jex passed away February 16, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. Don was born March 29, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Doral and Betty Hendrickson Jex.

Don graduated from Jordan High School. He served in the Utah Army National Guard.  He married Marie LaRieta Baum in Elko, Nevada on November 19, 1966.  They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Don worked at the family grocery store for many years. He also worked as a welder for Kennecott Copper and owned his own welding business. He worked for a couple construction companies, and later opened a construction specialty company with his wife, Marie. Don was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many organizations and callings, including Bishop and a member of the Stake Presidency.

Don loved horses and spent many years raising, showing, and training them.  He loved spending time outside in the barn.  He enjoyed wood working and crafted many beautiful and unique canes. In his last years, one of the highlights of his life has been raising and racing pigeons with his son, Mike. Don loved being a grandpa and loved his children and grandchildren very much.   We will miss Papa; however, we are so grateful he is no longer in pain and is reunited with his sweetheart.

Don is survived by his children, Michael Jex, Nicole (Jeff) Mills, and Chad (Kristie) Jex; his grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mills, Jordan Jex, Krista (Mark) Fernelius, Hannah Jex, Kara Mills, Isabelle Jex, Carson Mills, Charlotte Jex, Ava Jex, Ashley (Josh) Wayman, and Clint Shepard; his brothers, Alan (Kathy) Jex and Russ (JoAnn) Jex; and his sister, Joann Smith. He was preceded in death by his sweet wife, Marie; and his parents, Doral and Betty Jex.

A special thank you to his granddaughter, Kaitlyn, for using her medical training and knowledge, along with her gifts of compassion and love to care for Dad/Papa during his last hours.
