1946 – 2016

Donald Kent McKinnon of Layton, Utah, passed away in December 14, 2016 at the age of 70.  He was born on October 21, 1946 in Logan, Utah to Robert Gordon and Roene Price McKinnon.  He was one of seven children.

As a small boy, he lived in Randolph, Utah.  His family then moved to Bountiful, Utah where he enjoyed roaming the hills watching for wildlife, took flying lessons, and flew solo in 1963, joined the Civil Air Patrol, and graduated from Bountiful High School in 1964.  In 1965, he was selected to participate in the Civil Air Patrol International Air Cadet Exchange in Sweden for a month.  He served as a missionary in Australia for the LDS church, and then he attended Utah State University.

He married his sweetheart Bonnie Sue Wariner in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 12, 1968.  He served in the Air Force as a computer repair man, then continued his education at BYU, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in 1977 and a Master’s Degree in 1979.

He worked for Martin Marrietta, Morton Thiokol, and Boeing Aerospace where he was a system Safety Engineer.  He worked in several states, and always enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, skiing and gardening with his family wherever they lived.  He also enjoyed building remote control model airplanes.

Kent was a devoted and tender-hearted husband, father and grandfather.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Bonnie, his children Chenille (Kenny) Harvey, Tiffany (Lance) Beech, Angela (Chad) Harris, Jim (Jenny) McKinnon, Melanie (Trevor) Kirkman, and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 11:00a.m., at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary  1867 No. Fairfield Rd.  Friends may visit with family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd.
