Donald Ray Hall

Donald Ray Hall, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born August 21, 1924 to Florence Tracy and Howard Hall, the fourth of five sons.

Donald grew up in the Ogden-Marriott area along with his brothers Tracy, Eugene, Wendell and Delbert, and graduated from Ogden High School and the University of Utah.

In 1943 he joined the US Army and was stationed at Taunton, England serving with the 185th US Army General Hospital where many of the wounded from the European battlegrounds were evacuated for treatment.

After his return home in 1946 he along with his brother Wendell were called to serve an LDS mission to Argentina, where he cultivated a great love for the Spanish speaking people.

On March 16, 1950 he married Louise Scovel in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, and was a kind and loving father to six children, Steven (Louise Binns), Roger (Jill Funcannon), Jeffrey (Julie Draayer), Susan Franco (Joseph), and twin sons Ronald and Donald who died one day after their birth in 1951.

He was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many positions, including Branch President of the Ogden Spanish Speaking Branch, South Ogden Stake High Council and in the Bishopric of the South Ogden 28th Ward.

As a school teacher he enjoyed a long career teaching for many years at Wahlquist and North Ogden Jr High Schools, teaching Utah History and English to hundreds of students.

Donald was very proud of his Mormon pioneer heritage and after nearly fifty years of work published in book form a biography of his pioneer grandfather Helon Henry Tracy.

He is survived by his wife Louise, his four children, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren, and his brothers Eugene, Wendell and Delbert.

A private family gathering will be held to honor the memory of this kind and gentle man. Graveside services will be Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Aultorest Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest next to his parents and his twin sons.
