Donald Bert Rhoades

LAYTON - Donald B. Rhoades, 82, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born in Indiana, June 10, 1931 the son of Bert and Ellen Jane Warriner Rhoades.

Don married Jane Ooley on May 8, 1952 in Mooresville, Indiana.  She preceded him in death on July 11, 2011.

Don served a distinguished 27 year military career from October 1951 to November 1978 attaining the rank of CMSgt, awarded the Bronze Star.  Stationed at numerous bases throughout the states and overseas, he gave his wife and children the world.  After retiring from the Air Force he worked as an engineer on the Space Shuttle.

He was a boots and jeans country boy at heart, family came first.  He loved traveling, learning and tinkering in the garage.  He was a master of duct tape and a can of spray paint.

He is survived by his children: Peach (Doug) Rhoades, Tyra R. (Cory) Mauchley, Rickie A. (Angie) Rhoades, Toni R. (Mike) McAlister, Mickie O. (Nobalee) Rhoades, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and three sisters.

Preceded in death by his sweetheart wife Jane, parents, one brother and one sister.

Private family services will be held at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
