November 26, 1921 ~ November 27, 2014
Donna Hazen Collins passed away in Bountiful, Utah, on 27th, November, 2014, - Thanksgiving Day, one day following her 93 rd birthday. Donna was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 26, 1921. She was the first of three daughters born to Robert Hazen III and Sadie Adeline Catmull. Her family moved to Ogden, Utah, when she was a child. She lived there most of her life and graduated from Ogden High School in 1939.
She married her childhood sweetheart, William L. “Bill” Collins, on November 1, 1944, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Donna attended Weber State College after all of her children were of school age, and earned a nursing degree with high honors. She then worked at the McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden for the next 20 years. She retired from there as head nurse of the Intensive Coronary Care Unit. She enjoyed her work at the hospital immensely where she made many good friends and found great satisfaction providing for the needs of the patients under her care.
Donna was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions during her long life. She enjoyed keeping up on politics, BYU and Weber State sports, reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, and trips to the family cabin. She also took great interest in the lives of her family and many friends.
Donna is survived by her four children, Robert W. (Rolayne) Collins, Kent H. (Connie) Collins, Richard L. (Connie) Collins, and Carol Collins; 12 grandchildren and 20.5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, her parents, and her two sisters, Wanda H. Clontz and Barbara H. Wood.
As a family we are grateful for the care given by Carma Nelson and her staff at The Waikaloa, an assisted living facility in Bountiful, Utah, and for their friendship and kindness during the final year of Donna’s life. We are also grateful for the compassionate care provided by Julie Redford, RN, at First Choice Hospice.
