Donna Vee Kendell Cornia, 94, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, passed away peacefully at Fairfield Village in Layton, November 8, 2024, of causes incident to age.
She was born on July 24, 1930, in South Weber, Utah, to Myrle Dean Francom and John Wilkinson Kendell.
She graduated from Davis High School, and then married her high school sweetheart, Ivan Edward Cornia, in the Logan LDS Temple on November 21, 1950. They were blessed with four children, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
After years of taking night classes – all while raising a family and supporting Ivan in his many church callings – she graduated from Weber State University with an associate’s degree in June, 1987. She retired in 1995 after working part-time for many years, starting in 1978 with Clearfield State Bank, which was later acquired by First Security Bank and then Wells Fargo Bank.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings, including organist and teacher for various organizations, primary music leader, cub scout leader, family history consultant, young women president, and stake primary president. She also served as a host at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and as a transcriber for Ivan as Patriarch in both the Clearfield Utah Stake and Hooper Utah Stake.
Her passion was genealogy and family history. She spent countless hours doing research and collecting and organizing binders of pictures, documents, and other information on numerous family members. She also enjoyed hand quilting and counted cross stitch, making a quilt and a framed cross stitch picture for each of her children and grandchildren.
She loved to travel, taking trips to Israel, Egypt, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, China, South America, Canada, and all 50 states.
She leaves behind two daughters, Deanne (Kevin) Beutler, Janette (Duane) Cooke, and one son, Ray (Debra) Cornia, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Myrle and John Kendell, stepfather, John “Jack” Pippen, three sisters, Adella Ellis, Fae Burrows, LaVell Smith, three brothers, Glen Kendell, Jay Kendell, Kay Kendell, and one daughter, Donette Cornia.
The family would like to thank Nurse Practitioner Jen Griswold and her assistant, Christina, for the tender care they gave our mother over the past few years. We would also like to express appreciation to Ovation Hospice, especially nurses Mikell and Christi, for their loving care.
