Donna Lowe Ropelato Maxfield, 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 31, 2024, after a valiant fight with Alzheimer’s and pneumonia. She was born on October 27, 1934, in Ogden, Utah, to Clyde and Helen Muir Lowe. Donna was the oldest of three children. Her siblings were Norma Lowe Helms (Cliff) and Gary Lowe (Tana). She was a life-long resident of Hooper, Utah.
Donna graduated from Weber High School and LDS Seminary in 1951. Donna had a passion for life that was evident in everything she did. She was a proud member of several western riding clubs, including the Lakeside Riders, Hobos Riding Club (founding member), and the Pony Express Riding Club, where she made history as the first woman to complete the Pony Express ride. Donna’s partnership with her horse Shiloh earned her many trophies, belt buckles, and cash prizes, especially in pole bending, her favorite event.
Donna was active in her community and church, volunteering with the Hooper Elementary PTA and the Hooper Tomato Days Horse Shows for many years. Donna is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she loved teaching primary and serving as a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed playing volleyball with her ward team.
An adventurous spirit, Donna loved snowmobiling, riding motorcycles and ATVs, boating, and water skiing. She was also a member of the Double JJ Rustler’s square-dancing club for many years. She was also a devoted Utah Jazz fan, rarely missing a game. Her work ethic was unmatched, whether helping her father during the harvest, waitressing at local restaurants, and later retiring from Kimberly Clark Corp.
Above all, Donna cherished her role as a mother. She was proud of her seven children and enjoyed supporting them in their sports and school activities. Her family continued to grow, and she leaves behind a legacy of 24 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Donna was married to Mario Joe Ropelato for 33 years before their divorce. She later married Clark E. Maxfield and she lovingly cared for him until his death in 2019.
Donna especially enjoyed all of the many friendships she’s had throughout the years.
She is survived by her children: Jerry (Darinda) Ropelato, Daughter-in-law Tami Ropelato, Larry (Dawn) Ropelato, Wayne (Christy) Ropelato, Shari (Duane) Sell, Scott (Erin) Ropelato, and her loyal dog Kadee. She is also survived by her 24 grandchildren: David, Jeff, Marc, Stacey, Tyler, Blake, Jace, Kaylee, Kyle, Shelby, Trichelle, Justin, Kevin, Braxton, Jaydan, Kimleighel, Jared, Shannon, Michael, Taylor, Cameron, Mallory, Hayley, and Brittney. She was preceded in death by her children Tamara (stillborn) and Brent; her parents Clyde and Helen; her sister Norma; and her husband Clark.
The family would like to thank Hospice caregivers Maggie and Courtney, and Donna’s daughters-in-law for their care and support over the past five years.
