Donna Rae Moss

May 26, 1936 — September 6, 2022

Bountiful

Our Beautiful Angel mother, Donna Rae (Dix) Moss, age 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep early on September 6, 2022.  She was born to goodly parents, Claude Daniel and Helen Edwards Dix in Cedar City, Utah, on May 26, 1936.  Two months early, she weighed just over 3 lbs.

As a child, she loved playing outdoors, climbing trees, and especially going fishing with her dad up Cedar Canyon. Never one to sit still, she said her father nicknamed her Donna “Go” Dix.  She kept “going” all the way to the end of her life.

She graduated from Cedar City High School, attended Southern Utah College and graduated from Utah State University.  While teaching elementary school in Bountiful, Utah, Donna was set up on a blind date with a very handsome young man, James R. (J.R.) Moss.  She knew from the moment she saw him that she would marry him.  They were married on June 12, 1959, and were married for 54 years, until J.R.’s death on May 4, 2014.  Both of them had always wanted a large family and they loved their seven children.  Mom read to us at night, taught us to work, and to believe in ourselves.  She loved each of us wholly and unconditionally.  Mom’s whole world was her children and grandchildren.  They were her life’s work, her great OPUS.

That same love was extended to others as well, from the elementary school students she taught, to the neighborhood kids she tended, and to the people she served through her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She was a member of the Bountiful 17th Ward for most of her adult life, serving as Primary President, in the Young Women’s Presidency and during a very difficult time of her life, as the Relief Society President.  Mom told us and taught by example that helping others with their problems was the only way to survive your own.

Through service, she lovingly blessed the lives of many people throughout her life.  She took care of both her mother and her mother-in-law for several years prior to their deaths.  She loved learning about her ancestors.  Genealogy became her passion after her children were raised.  She has compiled many experiences and stories about them and their lives.  (Dad used to joke that mom spent her time chasing after dead people.)  She and J.R. also served as temple ordinance workers in the Bountiful Utah Temple.  She was an artist and won ribbons in the Davis County Fair for her paintings and loved teaching her grandchildren to paint.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Robert Daniel Dix and one great-grandchild.  She is survived by her seven children, Brad Moss, Geri Hallows (Rick), Anne Klemm (Ron), Angela Wilson (Atar), Helen Green (Darren), Jim Moss (Carrie) and Laurelee Fleischel (Ted).  Also survived by 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
