Donna Steed

May 21, 1934 — July 26, 2018

Donna Mae (Bernard) Steed (1934-2018)

“The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life.” – Russell M. Nelson.  Our beautiful and beloved Donna Mae Steed, was born May 21, 1934 in Wichita, Kansas, to Vager Duncan “Jack” and Maxine (Knowles) Bernard.  Donna passed away peacefully on July 26, 2018.

Donna was a courageous, generous and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.   She had the voice of an angel and many other talents including arts and crafts, cooking, music and a sixth sense to win the trust and affection of all dogs and cats. Donna graced her family with her example and gave us many cherished memories.  She was raised in Kansas and Oklahoma City.

As a young woman, she met a young fighter pilot named David Lawrence Steed on a blind date in Oklahoma City. They were soon married in the Mesa Arizona Temple on October 24, 1955.  Life in the military was one of adventure, travel and responsibility.  Donna spent several years where she was often alone taking care of her five children, moving homes across continents and managing a busy household while Larry was serving in the Vietnam War or on numerous tours of duty for the United States Air Force.  Their time together was the best of times, and Donna and Larry saw much of the world together and shared many wonderful adventures.  Donna also started a craft store called “Labor of Love.”

She loved doing arts and crafts and sharing her talents with others.  Donna will be sorely missed by her husband, Larry, her children, Laurie (Ted) Crookston, Gregory (Jennifer) Steed, Tracey (Kevin) McDonald, Scott (Jada) Steed, and Robert (Kristin) Steed.  Donna also was beloved by her 21 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.  Donna has two surviving siblings Kathy and Mike Bernard and her beloved Aunt Dorothy Bernard.

Donna was a person of great faith and served as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in many capacities.  She also served two missions with her husband including Johannesburg and Durban, South Africa and a Church Education Mission in Davis County, Utah.

Donna had incredible energy and talent and was devoted to using her talents to help lift and love others.  During her final years, Donna suffered from a stroke and dementia.  It robbed her of her freedom, mobility, and some of her memories but Donna never forgot how to laugh, love and smile at everyone.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville Crestwood Chapel, 1039 Crestwood Road in Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit family from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Internment will take place at the Kaysville City Cemetery.
