Edna Dora Alger Labrecque left us to join her husband, Ray Labrecque and other loved ones on Sunday, January 10, 2010.
She was born October 8, 1916 in Sunnyside, Utah to Edgar Alger and Elna Jensen. She was the second in a family of five boys, Van, Harold, Mayo and James Pace Alger and three girls, Dora, Myrleen and Erma Lee.
Dora worked for DDO, Marquardt, HAFB and Mountain Fuel Supply, but primarily, her vocation was as a tailor/seamstress. She worked for Bel Monde and modeled her own creations at the Hotel Ben Lomond. The violin player for the ladies on the runway decided to make her Mrs. Raymond C. Labrecque. She managed Skyline Sportswear in Ogden and made many sport shirts, classy pants, skirts and dresses for delighted men, women and kids. On the side she created more wedding dresses and formals for friends and relatives than probably any other individual ever. Along the way, she took art classes at Weber State College and many of her paintings are hanging on the walls of family and friends.
Dora was elected Business Woman of the Year while a dedicated member of Beta Sigma Phi. She cherished lasting friendships in that sorority and in her bridge clubs and birthday club.
Somewhere in there she raised three pretty good and grateful kids and collected some fascinating and hilarious tales. One of our favorites was the one about the three weddings of Dora and Ray.
Dora and Ray''s kids are Jay Kenner , spouse, HeaJa and grandkids, Michael, Michelle, Jenny and great grandson, Garrett; Allen D., spouse Connie Valentine and grandkids, Cristy, Ron, Steve and great-grandkids, Shane, Jerred, Alyssa, Katie Lynn, Nicolas, Madison, Toby and great-great-grandkids, McKenna and Lachlan; Lynda, spouse John (deceased) and grandkids, Jill and Amy. Her extended family includes her Greek kids, Dan, Phidia, Jim and Homer Cutrubus, other frequent visitors of the Labrecque home, Ronnie Burnett, Karl Nielson; and her kids-in-law, Norm and Sue Brown and Larry Brunker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond and all of her siblings, except Myrleen.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the Crestwood Care Center for the care they gave our mother during the last few months.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 15th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
