Doreen (Penny) Money Tanner Sutherland

Marjorie Doreen (Penny) Money Tanner Sutherland, age 90, passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 in Bountiful, Utah, after a long battle with Dementia.
She was born on April 27, 1926 in Eureka, Utah, to Reed Jex Money, Sr. and Ella Leona Viertel Money. Doreen’s family lived in Eureka when she was born but moved to Riverside, California in 1927. In 1930, her family moved to Cedar City, Utah for several years and eventually settled in Payson, Utah. Doreen graduated from Payson High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene Seth Tanner on November 10, 1944 in Laredo, Texas, where he was stationed with the US Army/Air Corp during World War II. After the war, they moved to Layton, Utah and later to South Ogden, Utah, where they raised their family. They were later divorced. After several years, she married James Sutherland and moved to Roy, Utah. They later divorced but remained good friends.
Doreen’s great love of being out in nature helped her to become an avid fisherman, deer hunter, and camper. She won a prize and her picture in the newspaper for the biggest buck shot during one year’s deer hunt. She made beautiful jewelry from the rocks she loved to collect while out camping. Doreen was also a championship bowler and won many prizes for her bowling. Her wonderful artistic talent was used to create beautiful ceramics and other items. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her son, Richard Tanner, Roy, Utah; two daughters, Lynette (John) Hansen, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Suzy Tanner, Marriott, Utah; her daughter-in-law Suzanne Tanner, Bountiful, Utah; her sister-in-laws Lynda Money, North Ogden, Utah, and Anna Money, Payson, Utah; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and her former companion Jim Sutherland. She was preceded in death by her first husband Gene S. Tanner and her son Steven Tanner on Dec. 4, 2016; her parents, and brothers Reed and Dick Money.
Both the viewing and the funeral will be held at the Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. (Orchard Dr.), Bountiful, Utah. Viewings are Friday evening Dec. 16, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, prior to the funeral, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Payson, Utah Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
The family would like to thank the nurses and other care workers at the Avalon Care Center in Bountiful, Utah for their care of Doreen the last few years.
