Dorin Dean Buttars, 89, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Ogden Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 24, 1919 in Dayton, Idaho, a son of David W. and Maud Shumway Buttars. He attended school in Dayton, Idaho.
Dorin married Ruby Wheelwright, September 18, 1945 in Ogden. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on November 6, 1953. He was a High Priest in the Roy 12th Ward.
He served in the Army in Africa and Italy during World War II and received the EAMC Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Two Bronze Battle Stars and Purple Heart.
Dorin moved to Roy in 1948 where he built a home and they moved into it in 1956 to accommodate a wheelchair to more easily care for his wife.
He worked as an Automotive Equipment Operator for the Navy Supply Depot and in the Missile Transportation area at HAFB for 27 years. He then worked for the Weber County School District as a bus driver for the handicapped.
Dorin is survived by one son and one daughter, David and Jane Buttars, Roy; Lois and Karl Bodily, Brigham City; nine grandchildren, Darin Bair, Ellie Bair, Matthew Bair, Shelly Hittle, Tyson Bair, Trent Buttars, Chad Buttars, Tristin Plendl, Lisa Howells; and 19 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Lyman G. (Pat) Buttars, Roy; a sister, Agnes Fae (Herbert) Williams, Weston, ID; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Buttars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
Friends and family may call Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Roy City Cemetery.
