Dorinda Meyer

December 1, 1925 — December 23, 2019

  • Dorinda A. Meyer

    December 1, 1925 – December 23, 2019

Dorinda Adeline Meyer passed away December 23, 2019 of natural causes. She had recently celebrated her 94th birthday with family and friends at the Fairfield Assisted Living facility in Layton where she had been in residence for three years.

Dorinda lived in the Ogden area since 1964 when she, her husband, Kenneth, and their four children moved to Utah from South Dakota. She and Kenneth became business partners after purchasing the Norge Laundry and Dry Cleaning Village located at 856 25th Street in Ogden. The business flourished over the years with several expansions and additional services. Dorinda ran the business herself for a short while after her husband’s death in 1982.

Dorinda was born December 1st, 1925 to George and Martha Weiler on a farm near Colome, South Dakota where her parents had homesteaded early in the 20th century. She was about 16 years of age when she met her future husband, Kenneth Meyer, of nearby Witten, South Dakota.  After graduating from Colome High School she worked in a clerical position at the Tripp County courthouse in Winner, South Dakota.  The couple was married in May of 1946 following Kenneth’s return from service in the Army Air Force during World War II.

Dorinda was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church in Colome, South Dakota and was an active member of Lutheran churches where she and Kenneth lived during their years of marriage. Her faith was always central to her in life. Even when her health prevented her worship attendance at church she continued with daily devotional reading and prayer. Her faith was foundational to her kindness and gentle spirit. She was loved by everyone who came to know her.

Dorinda had two older siblings: LaVonne and Frederick. Having lived 94 years, she becomes the last of her family to pass into eternity. She is survived by her four children: Lealand (Gilbert, Arizona), Linda Kuker (Layton, Utah), Douglas (Depoe Bay, Oregon) and Debra Cory (Depoe Bay, Oregon), grandchildren: Genevieve Nelson, Joshua Meyer, Amy Meyer, Carla Miner, Jeffrey Kuker, Daniel Meyer, Emily Meyer, 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.

Dorinda was known by her grand and great grandchildren as “Gigi”. She was delighted by them all.
