Our dear Mom, Doris, has passed on to her heavenly home at the age of 106 years. She died peacefully in her sleep.
Doris was born January 4, 1916, to Walter Nowlin and Minnie Lucinda (Lau) Rose in Twin Falls, Idaho. As a child she lived in Nampa, Idaho along with sisters Margaret Lau Hook (Frank), and Virginia May Fogg (Russell), brothers Fredric D Rose (Lela), Charles Walter Rose (Louise) and Robert I Rose (Elaine). Her parents and siblings preceded her in death.
Doris served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1939 and labored in the Southern States Mission. It was on her mission that she met her future husband, Dr. Jay W. McEntire. They would settle in Ogden, Utah where Doris would live the rest of her life. She married Milton George Berglund in June 1964. In 1982 she married Glenn J. Stock. In 2008 she married Garth Willard Atwood. Doris was preceded in death by her husbands.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Terry McEntire and grandson, Drew McEntire.
She is survived by her six children, Joan Buhrley (Louis) of Star, Idaho; Linda Glasgow (Terry) of Scottsdale, Arizona; Jay McEntire (Debbie) of Yorba Linda, California; Murry McEntire of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Robert McEntire of Draper, Utah; and Charles “Chuck” Berglund (Pat) of Layton, Utah. She is the proud and loving grandmother of 22 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Doris was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout her life she loved being in the temple. She served as a temple ordinance worker in the Ogden Utah Temple until the age of 96 and was known and loved by workers and patrons in the temple. Later in life she enjoyed being in the temple and performing work for her ancestors. In addition to her temple service, she also worked in the Family History Center for more than 10 years.
Not only did Doris give service within the Church, she also provided years of selfless service to her community. She was a Pink Lady at Ogden Regional Medical Center donating over 1000 hours of her time. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and Child Culture. In 1974 Doris was named “Woman of the Year” representing the Golden Spike Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. During her life she worked as a legal secretary in an Ogden Utah legal firm and also as a beautician.
Doris is a wonderful example of enduring with faithfulness and steadfastness throughout her life. She leaves a legacy of service and loving kindness. We rejoice in the firm knowledge that she is once again reunited with her Heavenly Father, and with her mother, father, and siblings.
We will miss you mom and we express our love and gratitude for the love you have given us.
