Doris Evangeline Riehl DeDecker

WEST POINT a€" Doris Evangeline Riehl DeDecker, a kind and beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was born August 5, 1922 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Art and Sophia Lewandowski Kolb. She passed away in her sleep Saturday, November 22, 2008, two days following the death of her beloved husband of 62 years Lloyd DeDecker.

As a toddler, Doris and her mother moved to Appleton, Wisconsin where her mother met and married Albert Riehl and Doris was then adopted by Mr. Riehl. She married Lloyd Francis DeDecker September 16, 1946 in Appleton, WI. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

As a young woman, she held various jobs. One of her favorites was at Zwicker Knitting Mill in Appleton. She also worked in hospitals in WI and UT eventually becoming an aide in the recovery room of her son''s dental surgery practice in Layton where she worked for 25 years. Earlier she was the office staff for her husband''s carpet cleaning business.

Doris had a very, very busy life and lived it fully. Being raised on a Wisconsin dairy farm began her life of knowing how to work. Here she developed a love for animals. Her hobbies and interests were many and varied but all showed the touch of an artist. She made beautiful porcelain dolls, created exquisite pictures of Chinese embroidery, she had her own pottery kiln and created artistic pieces and hand painted many. Her artistic touch created a beautiful home and yard.

Our beloved mother had a testimony of the restored gospel and was faithful to all the principles and ordinances pertaining thereto. She was a member of the West Point 10th Ward. We are so grateful to her and her husband for inviting in the missionaries to hear their message. We remember those days in Appleton feeding and caring for those valiant missionaries.

Mother was also dedicated to her children and never failed them from the day they were born to the day she died. To Doris, from all of us who know you, we give thanks for those endless moments of your unselfish life.

Doris is survived by daughter Marsha (Erwin Deceased) Stone of Ogden; sons James Jay (Sherma) DeDecker of Ogden; Dr. Dennis Lloyd (Sherilyn) DeDecker DDS of Kaysville. Also surviving are grandchildren Leah Kay -- raised as a daughter (Kevin) Egan of Virginia, Troy D. DeDecker, Tamara S. Tuivaiti, Michael A. DeDecker, Michelle S. Wakefield and Kamron Egan who was more like a grandson than a great-grandson and seven other great-great-grandchildren, two sisters Germaine Kaphingst of Appleton, WI and Vernice Kaphingst of Sebring, FL (they married brothers), many nieces and nephews and cousins and one brother-in-law Benjamin DeDecker of WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Joint funeral services with her husband, Lloyd Francis DeDecker, who passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008, will be held Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the West Point 10th Ward, 2852 W. 300 North. Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
